Getting More From the Software You Already Have

In the lumber and building materials industry, small improvements in day-to-day operations add up. Your team is managing inventory across yards, coordinating dispatch, tracking costs and keeping sales moving, often all before lunch.

The good news: some of the help you need may already be sitting inside your RDB Solutions software.

Whether you run Lumber Expert, Trader Expert or another RDB solution, it pays to step back and look at how your team actually works. A feature you haven’t explored, a workflow that could be simpler, or a faster way to get to your numbers can change your team’s whole day.

A Five-Minute Workflow Check

Answer these honestly. No one is grading.

1. The “Second Screen” check. Does someone keep a spreadsheet open next to the system to see inventory, margin or what’s on order?

2. The “Every Friday” check. Is there a report someone rebuilds by hand every week or every month-end?

3. The “Walk Over” check. Does anyone still confirm an order or a load by walking over or picking up the phone, instead of reading it in the system?

4. The “New Hire” check. When someone new starts, do they learn the workarounds before they learn the software?

If you said yes to any of these, call us. Sometimes the answer is a report or a setting you already have. Sometimes it is a workflow worth rethinking. Either way, it starts with a short conversation.

At RDB Solutions, we have built software only for lumber and building materials businesses since 1993. Our job is to make the system work the way your business works, and to keep supporting you as your operation grows and changes.

From Our Customers

“I’ve been in the lumber wholesale industry since 1999 and owned my own company since 2016. I’ve worked with several systems. This is by far the best; incorporates CRM, accounting, dispatching, and inventory management, and it’s very user friendly. Most importantly their support is well informed and timely.”

Industry Fun Fact

lumber software workflows

Lumber trades on futures markets, much like oil and other commodities, and prices can swing hard. In May 2021, lumber futures hit a record $1,733.50 per thousand board feet, more than four times their year-earlier level. The National Association of Home Builders estimated the surge added nearly $36,000 to the price of an average new single-family home.

For lumber businesses, it’s a powerful reminder: when prices move fast, accurate, up-to-date inventory and pricing information matters.
